A class action was authorized against Desjardins Cabinet de services financiers inc. and Desjardins Gestion internationale d’actifs inc. in connection with performance losses suffered during the 2008 financial crisis.

The class action, initially dismissed by the Superior Court, was authorized by the Court of Appeal in a judgment dated October 31, 2017.

The reasons for judgment raise several questions as to the authorization judge’s power to analyze evidence at the authorization stage.
